Stage and Screen chats to the person responsible for helping Accor embed sustainability into the core of the business – and to ultimately meet the Group’s target of reducing emissions by 46 per cent by 2030.
Go Green or Go Home
Allow us to introduce you to one of our inspiring hotel partners who's making serious progress when it comes to ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) efforts and protecting our turf – Mother Earth.
The Accor Group – whom our clients already know and love for their Mantra, Peppers, Ibis and other properties – have set themselves an ambitious goal that'll earn them some major points when it comes to tackling sustainability: a whopping 46% reduction in carbon emissions by 2030 and net zero by 2050. That's no easy feat, but they're dead-set on making it happen. In fact, they've even created a whole new position to lead the charge.

Here’s what you may notice when you check into one of Accor's hotels.
- Energised Efficiency: Say goodbye to wasteful energy practices! Accor's hotels will be buzzing with the latest eco-tech and innovative designs to ensure every kilowatt is accounted for and the hotels are highly energy-efficient.
- Waste Warriors: With over 200 million meals served annually, they are cooking up a clever kitchen weighing system to reduce food waste. Their menus are getting trimmer, and they're embracing eco-fabulousness with a move to 25% plant-based meals, organic delights, and local, seasonal treats. They are also revamping their supply chain to source food sustainably, safeguarding biodiversity, and reducing their environmental footprint. Now that's food for thought!
- Plastics Purge: They're binning single-use plastics left and right, waving goodbye to 43 plastic items in just 12 months. Their goal is to go completely plastic-free in their entire operation. It's not just about impressing guests; they're determined to leave no plastic footprint behind.
Accor is not shy to tackle outdated practices head-on. No greenwashing here! They're fully transforming their business culture from within. Their hotels use online tools to track and assess energy, water, waste, and carbon footprints. They've partnered with Ecotourism Australia for an extensive hotel audit, guaranteeing eco-certification within a year starting in Queensland in May 23.
This is where our Stage and Screen Hotel Program comes in. We are all about partnering with hotels on a green mission to help you travel more sustainably. We hope they inspire you to embrace your inner eco-warrior.
